OLの由来・・・
日本では、働く女性のことをOL (Office Lady)と呼ぶことがありますが、これはもちろん和製英語です。英語では、working womanまたは female office workerと呼びます。
OLという言葉が初めて使われるようになったのは、1963年11月25日号の雑誌『女性自身』（光文社）からだと言われています。それ以前は一般に
BG (Business girl)
という和製英語が使われていました。しかし、1963年9月に、このBGがアメリカで「売春婦」や「水商売の女性」を意味する隠語(Bar Girl)であることから、NHKが放送禁止用語としました。
そこで、東京オリンピックが始まる前に、『女性自身』が公募し、OLという言葉に決定したということです。
ちなみに、ふだん何気なく使っている職業の名前にも、実は性差別表現が含まれている場合があります。正しい職業名をチェックしてみましょう！
