90年代後半にブラック・スラングとしてブレイクしましたが、未だによく使われていて、Twitterを見ていても、"Keep it real, man!"などの形でよく使われています。他にも、"Keep it trill."（"trill"をチェック）や、"Keep it 100." (Keeping it 100)という言い方もあります。！

people use "keep it real" as to say; "stay true"...meaning don't act so fake...just be yourself! That's all it means. They usually say this to someone before they bid one another goodbye or that's the statement they use to close their letters.

（一回目のメール） 

"keep it real??" hahahah where did you get that saying?? that is so funny to see it in your email!! Usually, it is said by young black kids in america!! its so funny! I say it sometimes, as a joke. It is very cute and i was very surprised to see it in your email!

HAHAHAHA-- you are such a good english student to learn such slang terms. it is still funny to me. i even told my brother about your email that said "keep it real" he said, "how does she know that?" it is funny because only young people use it or even know what it means. and usually only young black kids use it. that is why it is so funny! if you ever listen to rap songs or watch movies about rappers, you will hear "keep it real" hahahah-- it is sooooo funny!!
